RARE Hellenistic Period about 323 B.C. gold repousse figurine representing Aphrodite.
Damage from long-time burial to the face, elbows and lower extremities made this an affordable piece for me to acquire very early on in my collecting mode, back in 1966 or 67, not sure exactly which.
Had it been intact, it would have been far more expensive and would never have found its way to my level of collecting at the time.
Another point; if it had been intact, there would have been the danger of counterfeit, but no forger would have taken the time and trouble to make a damaged piece that would sell far below the value of an intact one.
I bought it because of its high psychometric reading value; Bea Stanley was doing seances at the time, and I thought it would make a great connection point, which it in fact did, for a "necromantic" kind of seance.
I acquired this from Joel Malter back in the day; we were family friends for many years. His dad was at that time involved in the business, and I used to find 17th century Tibetan bronzes for him.
